Slide 10: Minimum Computational Requirement (MCR) - an overview of a new science that makes it possible to calculate the most efficient computing environment for an enterprise

Slide 11: X86 Mainframe - The MCR analysis showed that the firm needed far less computers for data processing. The challenge was how to combine a diverse set of applications such that they are highly available on a very small number of systems. We know what we wanted, a mainframe that ran Windows and Linux. Unfortunately, no one sold such a system. To meet the challenge, we came up with the X86 Mainframe.

Slide 12: don’t build it if you can buy it - The MCR analysis also showed that the firm needed far less computing for telecommunications, just two PBX systems in the U.S. Fortunately, there was a company that could sell us the precise services we needed, Cypress.
