Intelligent Computer: Beginning

The Purpose of this series is to introduce the Intelligent Computer and discuss various topics from the Amazing World of Stored Purpose technology.

Stored Purpose is the umbrella name we have given to all Intelligent Computer technologies. It includes detailed mechanics of intelligence including the information, processes and instantiation methods necessary to build very smart systems.

The Intelligent Computer is a broad, new area of technology. We think it offers an interesting story and over the next few months we hope you will join us as we share it. But be forewarned. As we explain how intelligent systems work, we will often draw comparisons with biological systems, including topics that may challenge firmly held beliefs about philosophy, evolution, existence, and religion.
Jun
24

Show Length: 4:22
What is Truth? What is Context?
When man first attempted “Artificial” Intelligence, programs were written to learn facts. A “fact” was written as: male sibling of parent is an uncle. The idea was that a computer could be taught to understand that if your father John has a brother Paul, then Paul is your Uncle. None of these programs ever enabled a computer to understand anything. But what is a fact, really? “Father’s brother is your uncle” is not a computable fact. How can that be? Know any Catholics? To make a Fact computable, it must stay true even in changing circumstances. So we developed a way to link truth to all points of a cycle of constant contextual variation ... a cycle that defines the existence of a computation that may be the lifespan of an intelligent entity ... a way to define the true meaning of a complex symbol like Father, which in context may mean Dad, Priest, or even God ... making it possible for an Intelligence to understand intended meaning, whenever and wherever a symbol is used.
We call the loci of multi-dimensional symbols that define an Identity, Context Space and its information store, Contextual Fabric. Brother -- (Man -- Parent) is a good point in Context Space to store a Form for “Uncle”. Thus far, we have only discovered one way to design an intelligent entity ... that is to store all parts of Identity ... Symbols, Goals, and Purpose in a Contextual Fabric ... using Purpose hypergraphs. After compiling the first Contextual Fabric, we found we weren’t the first unable to find a better way than the hypergraph ...

This series will teach you to speak Stored Purpose in forty minutes or less.

Stored purpose is an expansive framework, the first top down redesign of business and consumer technology since the stored program architecture was introduced in 1943. Although radical in its use of an Existence Model as its basis, stored purpose is practical in its approach of making new algorithms compatible with existing commercial hardware. This podcast will highlight several applications in machine science, enterprise technology, infrastructure and life science.

High definition videos of this podcast are available at www.wjones.com/Podcast

Topics Discussed in This Episode:

Figure - Ema Implementation
Stored Purpose
the mechanics of intelligence

Figure - Existence Model Architecture
Ema
the cycle of being

Figure - General Intelligence Algorithm
Gia
the intelligence processing cycle

Figure - Multi-level Intelligent Cellular Architecture
Mica
the construction cycle

Figure - Basic Concepts
Intelligence
the nature of understanding

Figure - Gia Outcomes
Intelligence
the cycle of understanding

Figure - Core Concepts
Intelligence
the nature of understanding

Figure - Existence Model Function
Goal Pursuit
aligning states of Self with Identity

Figure - Goal Base State
Goal Pursuit
Goal extends base Form

Figure - Learning Function Tree
Learning
same generation refining and modifying of Self

Figure - Stored Purpose + Biology
Existence Model Alignment
the computable analog

Figure - Hybrid Biological & Mechanical Tools
Technology
how intelligence defines tools

Figure - Sensory Process
Contextual Cognition
how intelligence combines Forms, prediction and measured states to understand

Figure - Form Context
Platonic Forms
Form link to contextual fabric

Figure - Form Components
Platonic Forms
how Self is defined

Figure - Form Storage
Platonic Forms
agent genome

Figure - Scene Processing
Symbolic Storage
anything ever known can be stored as a Platonic Form</itunes:summary>

wJones Intro - Intelligent Computer

Show Length: 3:01
What is wJones? What is Stored Purpose computing?
Back in 1950, Alan Turing, the inventor of computer program logic, predicted that by the year 2000, people would build intelligent machines … computers able to think like people. Before machines could be made intelligent, much invention was required ... a General Intelligence Algorithm to store and process understanding. Metacomputer technology to extend the outcomes of intelligent thought to physical devices. Platonic Forms to define Identity, Purpose and Goals for multi-agent systems. These inventions and more, are the work of wJones. We call the science of our work Stored Purpose computing. We develop and promote Stored Purpose, advising companies and governments considering development and regulation of next generation machines, enterprise operating systems, infrastructure, and biotechnology solutions. We think Stored Purpose computing opens a door to a world of pure imagination. Here, we share what we see behind that door.

Those same rules might help benefit us as we learn to work with nature, helping us ultimately become better stewards of our land.

The Existence Model Architecture or Ema, defines fundamental intelligence for agents within a Stored Purpose system. It includes both Information via "Platonic Forms" and processing via the General Intelligence Algorithm "Gia," that enable each agent to serve a Purpose defined by its Identity. Much of that Identity … the aggregate Goals that comprise each Purpose, will be to balance the Purpose of other entities within the system. For example, if there is a lawn maintenance bot which Purpose is to add water to the hospital lawn to make grass grow … there must be another bot with Purpose to cut the grass to keep it short. Similarly, if a new customer interest generates popularity in a product no longer produced, there must be counter effort to find inventory or resume production. We see the same balance on a simple level in human systems where a new baby's Purpose, which is largely to eat, grow, and poop, must be met by other Purpose to acquire food, to feed the baby, and to change its diapers.

It is in understanding that such balance is pervasive in any sustainable system, and that conservation of mass and energy laws ultimately guarantee such balance, that you begin to realize that "growth" in a Purpose oriented system is over the long term not in the physical domain. Unbalanced growth over a long term is considered a negative event, and has a special name … cancer.

So where is the net gain, in Ema based, Purpose oriented systems?

There is gain within each system, in a fashion similar to inductance, such that when Purpose is fulfilled, gain is achieved, but not necessarily in the direction of effort of any one agent.

Stored Purpose offers a look into the science of intelligent ecosystems, the study of information, processes, guides and controls that make systems of diverse intelligent entities possible. It provides an understanding of the prioritization and curtailment schemes that must exist to keep such a system alive and running for extended periods of time. Through its study, stored purpose can invariably grant insight into how our own system works. Questions as to why there must be viruses and bacteria, how a system of zero waste is possible, and why such a system is essential, are met with vivid new answers.

We believe it is in those answers and the study of the rules of our ecosystem, that people may find Purpose as stewards of this planet … helping hands that might assist, rather than hinder the planet's maker, over the next billion years.

Learn more at http://www.wjones.com/podcasts

Credits
Stored Purpose and the rules of making a better planet
produced by wJones Media

Music
Intro “Blame It On Me” Haitz
“Claire de Lune” written by Claude Debussy, performed by Laura Sullivan
all music is licensed for use in this podcast
</itunes:summary>

Components of an Intelligent Machine

Those two architectural models, when superimposed, make complex intelligent entities possible.

The two designs that make Stored Purpose intelligent machines possible are the:
	▪	Existence Model Architecture (Ema) - Ema defines a fundamental logical model of intelligent existence and can be used to create complete “single cell” intelligent entities. Each cell, or Ema entity is an atomic intelligence unit, possessing the minimum requirements for intelligence.
	▪	Multi-level Intelligent Cellular Architecture (Mica) - Mica defines physical construction for complex Stored Purpose entities. It combines multiple Ema cells, as a single cluster or as multiple clusters, to make systems of varying complexity.

Existence Model Architecture
What separates intelligent systems is that they Exist, i.e. they process a function to sustain a definition of their existence. That function of existence requires two parts:
1	A definition of the Self which we call Identity, and
2	Processes to instantiate and maintain the Self … even when the entity and it’s surroundings, called “context” change.
For intelligent systems, we define a third requirement, … an ability to execute a Purpose other than maintain Self. Yet meeting requirement, and thus serving some additional Purpose in the ecosystem … seems an unavoidable and automatic consequence of simply executing the first two parts of Existence. As such, there is no need for additional design components to perform this function.

We developed a method to define Identity, that we call the Platonic Form. We also created an algorithm that that enables a defined entity to interact with a physical world via technology, and align it’s measured and planned states with its Identity that we call the General Intelligence Architecture, or Gia.

Together, the Platonic Form and Gia, when processed in a special type of container, called a Soma, make possible an intelligent entity.

The Platonic Form is created in a format we call the purpose hypergraph. It combines contextual fabric with form subgraphs to make possible the storage of the “essence” of a symbol. Platonic Forms combine other Platonic Forms to define symbols of great complexity. A Form that defines a “plank”, can be used as the basis of a Form that defines a “door.” A rectangle can be used to define a box which can in turn be used to define a room which can be used to define a bathroom.

The General Intelligence Algorithm is the outcome of seven processes. This processes constantly compose the entity’s Identity definition (#1) into a type of memory called Plan (#2). Plan memory can be located in one physical device or propagated across the many physical devices of a metacomputer. Once Forms are in Plan, an active or conscious system will continuously process the Plan data, just before time Now, to prepare for Reality. At time Now, which is Reality, the system will sense (#4) and control (#3) all that has been planned with its states already pre-set to the values planned. This means that if a Stored Purpose system plans right, it doesn’t really need to do anything at time Now, because by executing Plan, it has already loaded the data to be sensed and executed the shape of motive effort need to influence the physical world.

When there is a difference found between Plan and measured data, then outcomes five, six and seven of Gia kick in. These are Goal Pursuit (#5), Understanding (#6), and Learning (#7). Goal Pursuit is simply the re-alignment of the entity’s measured Self with Identity. Understanding is simply a measure of the difference or impact to Plan caused by an event measured or in Plan, caused by Goal Pursuit. Finally Learning is simply readjusting the system’s Forms as might me needed due to prediction failure, or due to new symbols gathered in it’s processing.

Multi-component Intelligent Cellular Architecture
Ema makes simple intelligent entities possible, but sometimes an entity’s Purpose requires more capability, i.e. an entity with multiple component parts that enable it to perform diverse functions simultaneously. Mica makes this possible by combining individual Ema entities, which we call Cells into more complex entities. Each cell is based upon the same Identity fabric as all others, but will have a different role defined at a specific location in the contextual fabric of the Identity.

As cells, called Instruments in mechanical systems, are combined, each cluster of cells can have its own contextual purpose and thus complex entities can be created from many diverse “subsystems.” Each subsystem is based upon the same Identity, drawing it’s Purpose from a unique position in the context of the Identities purpose hypergraph. The Mica design provides for intelligent designs with limitless sophistication, yet efficient, due to the fact that all subsystems are based upon the same script, that is the overall system’s identity.

Terminology
While intelligent mechanical technology (mechatech) has many similarities to bio-technical (biotech) systems, we use different different terminology for the base, Level 1 system (cell, instrument) and the complex Level 4 systems (body, metacomputer).

Learn more at http://www.wjones.com/podcasts

Credits
Essential Components of Stored Purpose Machine Intelligence
produced by wJones Media

Music
Intro “Blame It On Me” Haitz
"You and I - Instrumental" The B Flat Project
“Claire de Lune” Laura Sullivan, written by Claude Debussy</itunes:summary>

Truth and Context Part 2 of 3 - When Computers Understand Us

Show Length: 5:41
We had four main goals for the new computer: 1. Understand people and organizations well enough to anticipate their needs and obligations, 2. Suggest and offer broad information and automation services that follow their rules, 3. Orchestrate harmonious activity across many fixed and mobile devices of a business, hospital, school or home, and 4. Compute efficient means for multiple agents to meet goals that consider nuanced responsibilities, resources and constraints.
We came to realize that the ability to determine the right and wrong states at a time, place and circumstance was a first step towards computable Understanding, enabling man made devices to know us, and anticipate our needs. We had to expand a science to develop a way to map time, place and circumstance without ambiguity.
Think about the gadgets you carry - they have gps, so they know where you are, they have technologies like bluetooth, that detect which objects you are near, they receive and send all your verbal and written communications. With Stored Purpose computing, we now know how to give the man made devices collecting all that information a purpose to care about you, and your Purpose. As the computer takes all this input and navigates Context with you, it will constantly predict ahead about what you care about and what you might need. If it can help, it will, because that will be its Purpose.
We think having man made agents, that understand you, can work with you when making cake, building motorcycles, writing a report, or managing conference rooms is the future of technology. We also think the science that enables a man made device to understand a person, might help people, better understand people and nature.

Understand people and organizations well enough to anticipate their needs and obligations,
2. Suggest and offer broad information and automation services that follow their rules,
3. Orchestrate harmonious activity across many fixed and mobile devices of a business, hospital, school or home, and

Learn more at http://www.wjones.com/podcasts

Credits
produced by wJones Media

Music
“You And I (Instrumental)” written and performed by The B Flat Project
“Empire (Imperial demo)” on Imperial f.f.r.r. performed by Unrest
“Summerland (Instrumental)” on The Woodlands performed by The Woodlands
all music licensed for use in this podcast</itunes:summary>
