The overall structure and requirements for the Metacomputer dates back to 2006, when we were just beginning to figure out how to make it all work. Today, the stored purpose architectures include hundreds of patent pending components, most of which can be built using off the shelf electronics and open source kernels.

Stored Purpose employs many technologies, many of which are based upon Ema.
The Stored Purpose design made it possible to design virtual agents, each with a mind and Identity. Each agent will eventually serve a person or operate a machine without need for explicit instruction. Many agents will be combined as an agency, to compose planned activity and orchestrate services for an organization. Key to such systems will be the ability to directly coordinate technology, employ tools and change device states, without immediate intervention by people. Tasks could include managing the flow of regional traffic, managing energy distribution, or transporting packages.

This design required a new type of physical machine, able to “exist” in many physically separate devices, and able to “host” multiple agents. This “metacomputer” would need to perform quickly, enabling agents to think slightly faster than people, anticipating their needs. Yet it would also need to be practical, running on available commercial technology.

Figure - Metacomputer Diagram<br /><br />The metacomputer provides a symbolic network infrastructure for resource context tracking and agent thought expression.  Agents will employ technology symbolically, and thus be capable of dynamic expression on a limitless range of human and machine oriented device types including mobile context communicators, transportation bots, street lighting and traffic communications, door locks, building lighting, energy monitoring and control communication.
